Plaza Racquet Club to Close – Thursday – June 23, 2016

image19As most of you probably know the Plaza’s last day of operation will be Thursday, June 23rd.

We did everything we could to save the club but, in the end, it became very clear that both the City of Palm Springs and the Palm Springs Unified School District were far more interested in money than community.  We sincerely thank all of you for your incredible support throughout this difficult time.

All that said, we haven’t given up.  We are currently working on a possible alternative site to relocate the Plaza Racquet Club.  We hope to have an answer to our proposal at the end of June.  Once we do, we will update our website and send a message to everyone for whom we have a legible email address.  Please make sure we have yours before our closing date.

The Plaza Racquet Club is a very special place. We will always cherish the memories that we’ve shared with each of you.

Have a wonderful summer and let’s continue to be optimistic about efforts to relocate the Plaza Racquet Club.

PLAZA RC NEWS UPDATE as of April 10, 2016

We recently received the following message from the Province Group, buyers of the school district property.

“Our project has been delayed for several months due to recent events and, as such, our closing will not occur until after the City lease and your sublease expires, so any requests for an extension would need to be directed to the property owner, Palm Springs Unified School District.”

We have shared this information with Mayor Moon and Councilman Mills asking if the City would be willing to extend our current lease arrangement if, in fact, the school district is willing to do so.  Mayor Moon responded by saying that this needs to be discussed with the City Manager and the City Attorney.

As more information is available, we will let you know.

Plaza Racquet Club Newsletter – Summer 2013

Summer is Almost Here — Bring on the Heat!

With summer fast approaching, we all want to take a moment and  thank everyone for our best season ever.  In the 2012-2013 season, we saw record-breaking amounts of tennis being played at the Plaza.

We hope that everyone enjoyed our wonderful tournaments, barbeques, fun and frolic for all.   We greatly value your membership and through your support and participation, our club continues to flourish.

First and foremost, we want to communicate the summer schedule to you.  Due to member demand, we will be keeping the Pro-Shop open all summer.   The club will be open daily from 7:00 a.m.— 11:00 a.m.  For June and July, Bill Parsha will be doing the game arranging, racquet stringing, sales and tennis services.   In August,  Gabby Kay will assume the duties of Tennis coordinator and maintain the same hours.

Congratulations to our singles club champions.  This years tournament was very spirited and saw a new cast of winners.    Kenny Williams, Duke Kulas, Paul Kakuschky, Larry Berger and Michelle Trager were all winners in their respective divisions.

Our club will be resurfacing courts 1-3 this October  and recovering the shade structures at the same time.

We wish you all a terrific summer and hope you will take advantage of our game arranging services.

Health Reminder

Don’t forget, before & after you play, stretch your various muscle groups to help avoid injuries and accelerate the recovery process.  In addition, don’t forget to hydrate at least two hours prior to your matches.  And even though our season temperatures are moderate, the sun’s rays are still damaging to your skin. Apply sunscreen liberally throughout the day.
